This guide will go over the basics of character building, general rules of ingagment in open field battles, the seiging and defending of castles and last but not least how to increase your chances of becoming emperor. (dyslexia is a thing)
a typical ESO build depends heavely in the players prefrence of what armor he uses what weapons he has equiped and what morphs he has active. and certainly you should experiment with each and every single one of the trees and find what you think is best for you. But do keep in mind that if you want to be at peak preformance when it comes to dps, healing or survivability you will have to put all your traits into one and the same research pool. Not only does it increase the amount of stamine or magica that you have it also increases the effectivness of your damage dealing abilities. A build with full magica will deal increased damage with all his abilities that use magica. but it will not increase the utilitie of the skill. for example if an abilitie that runs on stamina gives you increased critical strike for 4 seconds. the 4 seconds will not increase with the ammount of stamina points invested. In summary your traints should look something like this
and most of you direct damage abillities should run on your prefered resource only using skills that ond run on that resource for there utility.
The rules for skillpoints are simple.you get all the perks for everything you use. so if you use a greatsword you get all the perks for greatswords eventhough you might not even use any skill from that skill tree. If you have a certain weapon in hand you get the perks for it. You should also invest in all the perks that your class gives you. Because these are always active. When it comes to skill selection there are no wrong awnsers not that you cant see atleast.
I will leave you with some meta class and weapon combinations that are verry effective when it comes to pvp
- stamblade: nightlbade, medium, dualwield or 2 hander, bow ofhand. deals a lot of physical and poison damage.
-mageknight: dragon night, cloth, firestaff, healing staff. bane of vampires pure fire damage has good shielding to stay in the fight.
-magblade: nightblade, cloth, firestaff, greatsword. Good for ranged magic damage and stealth.
-healtemp: templar, cloth, healing staff, sword and shield. Strong heals and survivability?
( all these set ups can be played in plate armor lowering there prefered stat but allowing them to survive for longer. essentially trading out burst for survival)
i will not be covering sets as this is a guide for begginers and seeing as i dont have enough experience with gathering sets myself. i dont want to give my opinion yet in fear of beeing wrong.
Rules of ingagement.
A question i get asked a lot by beginners is "what role should i pick?". the anwser is simple whatever your char exels at. Dps, healer and tank both have there unique role when it comes to the allience war that somewhat differs between the allience war and regular pve. for example where in normal pve the tank his job is to keep the agro of as much mobs as possible in pvp his job is more disruptive. going in and putting down crowd controle so the dps can kill as much of the opposition is the best way to gain significant progress during a fight. Speaking of dps they preform 2 distinct tasks in a battle.
1: dealing damage to the enemy fronline and putting pressure on the enemy healers manapool.
2: skulking around trying to pick off targets that have low total health or are weakend by range fire.
Healers on the otherhand dont only have the job of protecting and rejuvenating the groups hp but also to keep any seige equipment alive during battles.
Note how i didnt say they should ress dead players as a general rule of thumb its everyones job to make sure everyone is ressed.
the siege and defence of castles
seiging a castle is in some cases as simple as rolling a ram to the gate and knocking it down.
But the first sign of a nother player on the inside can spell doom if you dont know how to react propparly. The first thing most defenders do is put up a ballista and try to snipe down your seige equimpent. The best way to stop this from happening is use a trebuche in retalliation or nuke him down with ranged attacks. in general you dont want him to do any damage. The other way of stopping you is by calling in reinforcements. Which can be easily stopped by capping 2/3 resourches of that keep. this costs you time however. time that the defenders will use to set up there equimpent. hence why most raid leaders prefer to risk in and go in hoping the enemy wont notice the assault. The last methode of stopping you is the dreaded oilpot. An easy for for a raid of begginers to die without even knowing what hit them. The oil pot does something around 4-6 K damage as a dot and must be disspelled and or healed through as soon as possible seeing as it is fatal in most casses when ignored.
the oilpot can be placed in a lot of places around the castle the most common once are the stairs underneat the controle flags. and the grate above the main gate and main door of keeps. they are hard to destroy seeing as there is mostly solid wall covering them from a clear balista shot. You can avoid this problem by doing "side strat" basicly attacking the side door of the castle bypassing the oil compleetly and limiting the defending's side to place seige equipment. but the con beeing that you have to push through a stone wall which takes longer then the wooden door. This gives the enemy enough time to send a counter attack force from the nearest enemy keep the charge you down on horseback.
A good offence is keeping the enemy guessing on what you next point of assault is going to be making sure they cant fully commit to a singular defence with the fair that you switch your tactics in the last second.
the best defence is presistence and allowing the enemy raid to lose morale through countless deaths and the destruction of there seige equipmpent.
the emperor to some doesnt mean a lot. it is seen as the highest decleration in the allience war and shows true dedication to the killing field that is cyrodiil. the skills he gets are
- domination : increasing magica ,stamina and health by 100%
-authority : increasing ultimate gain by 100%
-monarch : increasing the healing magnitude by 100%
-emperor : increasing health stamina and magica by 75% while in your campaign
-tactician: increasing seige damage by 75%
These are extreemly strong in any situation regardless if you play pvp or not.
So how do you become an emperor? Simple you need to hold the 6 keeps around the emperial city and be the player with the highest amount of allience points gained in your allience.
you will lose emperor ship when all 6 keeps are lost. This is not impossible for new players seeing as it does not mesure your skill but merally your dedication to winning and presistance in the allience war. The best way to score is to play as a healer and repair structures using your allience points and soul gems. if a friendly player that you healed kills an enemy you will gain assist points for that kill. which is not as much as a normall kill sould give but you can heal 7 - 15 people at the same time adding to more points then if you were to just be killing. Remember that it doesnt count you current amount of allience points on the leaderboard for emperor. it counts the amount you gained so feel free to spend it all on repair kits so you can gain more through spending them. This should help you well on your way to gaining that fancy title.
i hope i was able to educate some of you and awnser some questions about he alience war.
If anyone has any questions or has any remarks be sure to whisper me i am always available to give advice on anything build or stratagie related.
